Darren Bent suggested West Ham might be the ideal club for Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England striker admitted he could envision the Hammers signing Clyne and giving the Reds defender the game time he needs.

It was recently reported that David Moyes could target a right-back this month and Clyne, as well as Newcastle United’s Javier Manquillo, were listed as possible options.

Bent revealed he thought Clyne is quick, powerful and could defend, so suggested he is better than Moyes’ current options.

When asked if West Ham could be the ideal club for Clyne giving their current right-back options, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah, I think Nathaniel Clyne needs to go somewhere and start playing week in week out.

“I think that could be West Ham, Zabaleta…his legs are going a little bit and Fredericks is quick but defensively he is not there.

“But Clyne is both, he’s quick, powerful and can defend.

“I think he might end up going to West Ham on loan, playing all the time and them not signing him anyway.”

The Liverpool defender is yet to play this season due to injury and he spent part of his 2018/19 on loan at Bournemouth.

Clyne joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2015 and his current Reds contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
