Darren Bent suggested West Ham attacker Michail Antonio is undroppable as he’s currently head and shoulders above his teammates.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former Tottenham striker revealed he believes that you always know what you’re going to get from Antonio.
The Hammers winger crashed his Lamborghini into the bin shed of a family home while dressed as a snowman on Christmas Day.
It was reported that the incident was viewed by the Hammers board as being an example of the lack of discipline under Manuel Pellegrini.
Bent acknowledged that the Lamborghini incident obviously wasn’t great, but admitted the Hammers couldn’t afford to drop him.
“The car thing, the Lamborghini incident obviously isn’t great but at the same time he is head and shoulders above everybody there at the minute,” Bent told Football Insider.
“There’s probably players who have a lot more quality than him, but because you know what you’re going to get from him, the pace, the power, 100% effort then you can’t leave him out.
“You’ve got to play him, you have Yarmolenko and these guys who have more ability, but you know what you’re going to get from Antonio.
“So for me, he is their most important players.”
West Ham opted to part company with Pellegrini recently and hired former Hammers boss David Moyes to take charge.
Antonio has featured 10 times across all competitions for the East London club this season, with an injury stopping him from featuring more.
In other West Ham news, A Football Insider pundit urged the Hammers to sell a talented first-teamer in January.
