Darren Bent urged Sheffield Wednesday attacker Jordan Rhodes to consider Celtic if they come calling in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international suggested a move to the Hoops could be really good for the forward as he’d get to play Champions League football and compete for trophies.
It was reported recently that Neil Lennon’s side were looking to sign Rhodes on loan from the Owls in order to bolster their push for a fourth Treble and Europa League run.
However, Football Insider revealed that the 29-year-old attacker was set to rebuff the Hoops’ reported interest and stay at Sheffield Wednesday for the rest of the season instead.
Bent explained that he always wondered about Rhodes as no Premier League team has ever opted to give him an opportunity and suggested that with one unlikely to, Celtic were the next best thing.
When asked if Rhodes would be a good signing for Celtic and whether he should consider a move, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah I think he could go up to Scotland and score goals quite consistently.
“I’ve always wondered about Jordan Rhodes as he seems to score as much as he wants when in League One or in the Championship, but no one has really given him an opportunity in the Premier League by thinking yeah I think he can do it.
“But for someone like him who has scored that many goals, no one is looking to give him that opportunity in the Premier League so Celtic is the next best thing for him.
“Talking about Champions League football, winning trophies, fighting with Rangers, so I think for someone like Jordan Rhodes that could be really good for him.”
Rhodes has featured 11 times for Sheffield Wednesday this season, scoring three goals in the process.
All three of the forward’s goals came in the recent win 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
