Exclusive: Bent wowed by reported Tottenham pursuit of 'Brilliant' ace - 'Will be a gamechanger'

Darren Bent was impressed to hear that Tottenham are reportedly leading the race to sign Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech alongside Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker admitted Ziyech would be a gamechanger for Spurs if signed.

It was recently reported that Spurs and Arsenal jointly lead the race for the 26-year-old winger after Ajax slapped a £43million price tag on his head.

Bent explained that he rated Ziyech as he was brilliant for Ajax last season and suggested he’d be a good option for Jose Mourinho to play on the right-wing.

However, the former Spurs attacker did add that the North London club need to look at signing an out-and-out centre forward with Harry Kane injured.

When asked if signing Ziyech would be a gamechanger as he is a handful for any team, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah of course.

“But they do need someone who is going to stick the ball in the back of the net as Harry Kane is out.

“So yeah I mean like him, he was brilliant for Ajax last season, he’s been good for them.

“Obviously it’ll be nice to have him on the right, Son on the left, and a centre-forward between them.

“So yeah that will be a gamechanger offensively going forward.”

Ziyech has featured 28 times for Ajax this season and he has racked up an impressive eight goals as well as 21 assists.

The Morocco international is contracted to stay with Ajax until 2022 and has been with the Dutch side since joining them in August 2016.
