Joe Hilton has signed a new two-year Blackburn Rovers deal before heading out on loan, Football Insider can reveal.

A Blackburn source has told Football Insider the goalkeeper has committed to a new deal with his contract previously set to expire at the end of the season.

Hilton is heading to Ross County after impressing on loan at Fleetwood Town earlier this month.

The Englishman moved to Highbury on an emergency seven-day loan after Fleetwood suffered an injury crisis.

It was his first taste of senior action and he finished the spell with three appearances in which he conceded seven goals.

He is now set to move north of the border to challenge Ross Laidlaw for the gloves after Ross Doohan was recalled by Celtic.

Blackburn are well stocked in the goalkeeping department with summer signing Thomas Kaminski firmly established as Tony Mowbray's number one.

Aynsley Pears deputised for the Belgian earlier on in the season when he had a groin strain while Greece Under-21 international Antonis Stergiakis is third-choice at Ewood Park.

Hilton moved to Blackburn from Everton in the summer of 2019 and has been a regular for the club's Under-23 side.

Across his time at Blackburn and Everton, he has kept seven clean sheets in 24 Premier League 2 games.
