'It is an astronomical sum of money' - Exclusive: Bruce reacts to West Ham potential sale

Alex Bruce has suggested that West Ham could sell defender Issa Diop for an “astronomical” fee to boost their own transfer plans.

The former Premier League centre-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes manager David Moyes will want to keep the 23-year-old on board but admits that money talks.

Metro report that Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on signing the Hammers star this summer despite the Irons setting a £60million-plus price tag on his head.

Bruce does not think the Irons board will feel forced to sell up but that the defender’s exit could deliver a significant boost to Moyes’ own transfer plans.

Bruce told Football Insider: “They have got very wealthy owners, they’re not the kind of people who need to sell, I don’t imagine, so it would be interesting if they dig their heels in.

“West Ham need to keep hold of their best players, they need to build a team and I’m sure he would be around that, one of the players Moyes would want to keep. It all depends on what Moyes has got.

“If he needs to bring in money to spend, then you might look at it and it is an astronomical sum of money and the boy might want to go if one of the big clubs, like Manchester United, come calling for him.”

Diop, who signed from Toulouse back in 2018, has played a total of 64 times for the Hammers.

He has had to battle it out with the likes of Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena for a place in the starting XI.

In other West Ham news, Alan Hutton has warned a Premier League star not to seal a reunion at the London Stadium this summer.
