'Brilliant' - Exclusive: Bruce in awe of Rangers player who started in midweek
Alex Bruce has hailed Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield as a real gem who makes the team tick.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Kilmarnock defender explained how the Canada international is a really tough opponent.
Arfield is a mainstay of Steven Gerrard’s team and started Wednesday’s memorable Europa League win over Sporting Braga that sealed a place in the last 16 of the competition for the first time since 2011.
Bruce explained why the versatile 31-year-old, who can play in central midfield or in more attacking positions, is so key to the way Rangers play.
“Clever player, little bit like Steve Davis,” Bruce told Football Insider. “Both did well in the Premier League, clever little players find little pockets, keep the ball well, two really good players.
“You see with the [recent] goal v Kilmarnock that Scotty scores, 25-yard shot, brilliant.

“He’s full of energy, looks to arrive in the box to chip in with the odd goal as well, keeps them moving, a clever player.”
Arfield has already racked up a monumental 46 appearances for Rangers this season, a number beaten only by Connor Goldson (47) at the club.
He has demonstrated his matchwinning ability, with nine goals and five assists from all competitions.
The former Burnley man, who arrived at Ibrox on a free transfer in the summer of 2018, has already played in 92 matches for the Glasgow giants, scoring 21 times and registering 12 assists.
