Exclusive: Campbell wowed after West Ham sign ace on 'Try Before You Buy' deal

West Ham will look to sign “quality” Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal in the summer if he impresses between now and the end of the season.

That is the view of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old’s arrival at the London Stadium.

The Irons confirmed the signing on Friday of the England international on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

Lingard made just three appearances for the Reds Devils in the first half of the season – two in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup.

He has worked with Hammers boss David Moyes before while Moyes was manager at Old Trafford between 2013 and 2014.

When asked by Football Insider for his verdict on Lingard’s loan move, Campbell said:

“David Moyes knows Jesse Lingard very well from his time at Manchester United.

“This will be a try before you buy kind of deal. Lingard needs game time and West Ham need quality players. It is a deal that suits both.

“You can never have enough good players. You need to have a good squad these days, it is a squad game.”

Speaking shortly after his arrival, Lingard told club media: “There were lots of clubs involved but, for me personally, I felt this was the right move.

“I’ve obviously had a previous relationship with the manager as he was at Man U and I’ve played under him before, so he knows my qualities and what I can bring to the team.”
