Celtic have dramatically slashed the asking price for Odsonne Edouard by £15million, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Hoops slapped a £40m valuation on their prize asset in the last window to scare off suitors as they ensured he could spearhead their 10-in-a-row tilt.
But Celtic chiefs accept they won’t get anywhere near that for Edouard in the January window and his price tag has been cut to £25m.
That is a result of his mixed form this season as well as the fact he has entered the last 18 months of his contract.
It comes after this site first broke the news on 6 January that Edouard had switched agents to London-based Stellar Group.
The agency’s clients include Gareth Bale, Jack Grealish and Kieran Tierney, who became Celtic’s record sale when he joined Arsenal for £25m in 2019.
The prospect is growing that Edouard, 22, will now follow his former teammate to the Premier League for a similar price.
Speculation about the Frenchman’s future has intensified since Football Insider revealed his agent move.
Celtic have failed in multiple attempts to secure their prize asset to a new contract.
His current deal, signed when he joined permanently from Paris Saint-Germain, expires in the summer of 2022.
There was strong interest in the Frenchman last summer from clubs south of the border and that is likely to grow now his asking price has been cut.
Edouard remains Celtic’s star player but he has not hit the heights of his outstanding 2019-20 campaign in which he won the Scottish Player of the Year award.
The France Under-21 international has scored 11 goals from 23 matches this season but was one of the ‘Covid 13’ missing from last night’s draw against Hibernian.
