Danny Mills implored Aston Villa attacker Scott Hogan to jump at the chance to join Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international insisted that Hogan has to try and play at the highest level of football he possibly can.
It was recently reported that the Hoops were ready to rescue Hogan as they’re considering tabling a loan bid to bring him to Parkhead in January.
It is believed that the Villans won’t block a loan move to Neil Lennon’s side and Stoke City are open to ending Hogan’s current loan spell with them as he has failed to impress.
Mills explained that sometimes it just doesn’t work out at a club for a player and it’s not down to any fault of their own.
When asked if Hogan should jump at the chance to join Celtic after struggling at Stoke and Aston Villa, Mills told Football Insider: “Without a doubt.
“As a player you want to play at the highest possible level that you can, even if sometimes it may seem beyond you, you’ve got to take that opportunity because you don’t know when it’ll come around again.
“And sometimes, you surprise people and you surprise yourself.
“Just think about Sheffield United, did we think they’d do as well as they have in the Premier League? No, I was certainly surprised.
“And sometimes, it works at some clubs for you and others it doesn’t.
“Lukaku amazing at West Brom, fabulous at Everton but it didn’t work at Manchester United for him.
“Sometimes there’s no real great or particular reason, sometimes players just aren’t suited to a certain type of club.”
Hogan has struggled on loan at Stoke City this season as he has only managed to score two goals in 13 Championship outings.
The 27-year-old has featured 61 times for Aston Villa since joining the club from Brentford in January 2017 and his current Villans contract doesn’t expire until 2021.
