Danny Mills claimed Everton will be targeting a right-back this summer after insisting “abnormal” Djibril Sidibe has failed to impressed him.

The former Leeds United and Manchester City full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, does not expect the Toffees activate the £13million option to sign the defender permanently,

Sidibe was signed by former manager Marco Silva on a season-long loan deal from AS Monaco last August with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The 27-year-old has made 24 appearances for the club with often first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman currently sidelined with a quad injury.

When asked for his assessment of the France international’s debut season in English football, Mills told Football Insider: “Sidibe looks a bit awkward at times. Maybe that is just his style of play, the way he is but the way that he moves is unorthodox.

“That can give you the impression that he is uneasy. Some players do not have a normal running game or they look awkward. He is just one of them.

“Seamus Coleman being out has been a big problem for them and they will be looking for a quality full-back for next season.

“Everton are going to have to up their standards.”

The defender came under criticism for his performance as the Toffees were convincingly beaten at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, losing 4-0 to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.

The loss saw Ancelotti’s side slip to 12th in the table with hopes of qualifying for the Europa League fading.
