Darren Bent has claimed rival clubs are plotting a move to sign West Ham star Manuel Lanzini as the Hammers prepare to open talks over a new contract for the attacker.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the Argentine forward is the most creative player Manuel Pellegrini has at his disposal at the London Stadium and that his talents will be in high demand elsewhere.
Lanzini missed the majority of last season due to a serious injury picked up prior to the 2018 World Cup, but as exclusively revealed by Football Insider, the Irons are looking to open talks over extending his contract at the club.
Bent suggests that the Hammers are protecting themselves over interest from elsewhere with a new and improved contract for the 26-year-old, insisting he is one of the best players in east London.
Bent told Football Insider: “He’s had a tough time with injuries but when that guy’s on form, we’ve seen what he can do. In their squad he’s probably easily their most creative player.
“For me, they’ve got to (hand him a new deal.) You right off last season because of injury, but you look at when they guy’s fit and how good he is. West Ham obviously realise other clubs are 100 per cent looking at him.”
Lanzini has featured in both the Irons’ games this season, laying up Javier Hernandez with an assist in the 1-1 draw with Brighton, after managing to play 10 times during the 2018/19 campaign.
He has a total of 111 matches for West Ham, scoring 21 goals and chipping in with a further 18 assists.
In other West Ham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have submitted a £45million bid for an Italy international.
