Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts as Leeds to listen to offers for 'top, top player'
Darren Bent has revealed he has been baffled by the downturn in Barry Douglas’ career at Leeds United as the club pave the way for his exit in the summer.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says he expected the left-back to be a “top, top player” at Elland Road.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Leeds are prepared to listen to offers for the 30-year-old this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract.
He has struggled to establish himself as a mainstay in the starting XI, with Stuart Dallas and Ezgjan Alioski often ahead of him in the pecking order this season.
Bent admits he is baffled as to why the former Wolves has not shone in his time at Leeds, revealing he was expecting so much more.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s not great what’s gone on there. I fully expected him to go to Leeds and be a top, top player but for whatever reason it’s not really happened for him.

“Why? I couldn’t tell you why but unfortunately these things happen.”
Douglas arrived at Leeds in 2018 after helping Wolves win promotion to the Premier League, chipping in with 14 assists on the way to the Championship title.
Bielsa’s first signing at Elland Road, he has played 39 times across all competitions for the Whites, only 13 of those appearances coming during the 2019/20 season.
