Darren Bent has claimed that Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is set for a decade of dominance in the starting XI after impressing with his performances in north London.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England striker and lifelong fan of the Gunners says that the 20-year-old has talents and attributes that you cannot teach as a coach.
The Frenchman, who has earned a call-up to his country’s current international squad, has been a mainstay under Unai Emery in the centre of the park this season in what is his second campaign at the club.
Bent says that the young talent is set for years of success at Arsenal if he stays, highlighting Guendouzi’s desire to always be on the ball regardless of whether he is having a good game or not.
Bent told Football Insider: “He’s playing like he’s someone who’s played for Arsenal for years. It’s scary that he’s only 20, he could be in the Arsenal midfield for the next 10 years, he’s really good in that role.
“Even when he gives the ball away, he wants the ball all the time. He never shies away from that and that is a trait in a midfielder that you can’t teach, you can’t teach that.”
Guendouzi has a total of 52 appearances under his belt for Arsenal since joining from Lorient back in the summer of 2018 and has started every one of the club’s games this season.
He has been partnered alongside the likes of Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock by manager Emery, the Spanish boss opting for a trio of Xhaka, Torreira and Guendouzi in their north London derby clash against Tottenham.
