Exclusive: Bent suggests Aston Villa splash the cash on reportedly available PL attacker
Darren Bent suggested Aston Villa splash the cash on signing Newcastle United attacker Dwight Gayle as he’d get them the goals they need.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Villans forward claimed Dean Smith’s side need to splash the cash and add a striker with some pedigree to their books.
It was recently reported that Gayle was available to sign in the January window as Newcastle have offered him to a number of Championship clubs.
Bent explained that he wasn’t sure why the English forward hadn’t been given more game time at St James Park this season.
However, he quickly added that if Villa did sign Gayle and played him, then he’d expect the forward to get the goals needed.
When asked about Villa’s hunt for a new striker, Bent told Football Insider: “I think Villa in this window need to dip in for a Dwight Gayle or someone like that.

“Someone who has got pedigree and have Kodjia play back-up.
“I don’t understand why Gayle hasn’t had more game time, maybe Steve Bruce doesn’t fancy him, but if you give him enough games, he’ll get goals.
“If he did go to Villa and they played him, I’d expect him to get goals.”
The 29-year-old has played nine times across all competitions this season, and while he hasn’t managed to score a goal, he did register an assist in the 1-1 draw with Wolves at the weekend.
Gayle only played 28 minutes of the draw with Wolves as he went down with a hamstring injury, however, it’s been claimed that he will be available to return to training in two or three weeks.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED the club have tabled a move to sign a striker from a giant of the Premier League.
