Derby County have turned their attention to signing West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The Rams are plotting a swoop for the 26-year-old after they failed in their attempt to lure his teammate, Charlie Austin, away from The Hawthorns.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that discussions are now taking place with Zohore and his representatives over a potential move to Pride Park.
The striker has struggled to establish himself in the Midlands following a blockbuster £8million move from Cardiff in the summer of 2019.
He has scored five goals in 20 appearances for Slaven Bilic’s side, of which only seven were starts, with Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Callum Robinson preferred to spearhead the attack.
Zohore, who is yet to make a matchday squad for the Baggies this season, has three years remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns.
Football Insider revealed yesterday that Derby had been in contact with Zohore’s teammate Charlie Austin but the former Southampton centre-forward snubbed the move.
This is despite the best efforts of former England captain Wayne Rooney who got in personal contact with Austin in a bid to lure him to Phillip Cocu’s side.
The Rams have up until 5pm on Friday to complete a deal for a striker after a short window for domestic-only deals was agreed earlier this year.
An injury to Robson-Kanu means Austin may have moved up the pecking order at The Hawthorns, for now, but Bilic wants to recruit one or two strikers over the next 48 hours.
In other Derby County news, it can be REVEALED that Rams attacker subject of agreed Leeds 2018 bid is in talks to join Rotherham.
