Derby County are plotting a move to sign goalkeeper Joe Hart on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.
The 33-year-old is currently without a club after his contract at Burnley came to an end at the end of June.
A source at Pride Park has told Football Insider that Phillip Cocu is preparing a move to add the two-time Premier League winner to his squad and that the move has been backed by Rams ace Wayne Rooney.
Hart struggled for game time during his two years at Turf Moor and ended up playing just 24 times for the Clarets before his exit.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, Celtic were in talks with the 75-cap England international over a potential deal but the Bhoys instead moved for Greek star Vasilios Barkas.
Hart already has a number of allies within the Derby camp and knows goalkeeping coach Shay Given from their days together at Manchester City.
The former Shrewsbury stopper is also close friends with star man Rooney and it is understood the 34-year-old has given a prospective move for Hart the thumbs up.
The Rams are in the market for a new goalkeeper after Ben Hamer returned to Huddersfield following his loan spell at Pride Park.
The 32-year-old spent the whole season with Cocu’s men but only established himself in the starting XI from November.
Kelle Roos started the season as the first-choice stopper but was dropped to the bench in place of Hamer.
Hart’s last league appearance came back in a 5-1 defeat to Everton in December 2018.
In other Derby County news, it can be revealed the Rams are in the hunt to sign a giant forward.
