Exclusive: Everton plot January raid for Man United speed machine

Everton are keeping tabs on Man United speed machine Daniel James ahead of the January window, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Merseysiders tried to sign James, 23, last year but United saw off intense competition to sign him from Swansea City.

An Everton source has told Football Insider that the winger is on their radar again as they assess potential reinforcements in the winter window.

The Merseysiders are likely to concentrate on the loan market in January after another summer of big spending.

James could be made available by United for a temporary move after slipping down their pecking order this season.

He has made just three Premier League starts among five appearances in all competitions after being a regular in his debut campaign.

James remains a key player for Wales and played 89 minutes of their 3-1 Nations League win over Finland on Wednesday night.

Everton are looking to add pace and penetration to their attack in January after the unavailability of Richarlison for three Premier League matches nullified their cutting edge and coincided with consecutive defeats.

It remains to be seen whether United would be willing to let a senior star join Everton on loan if they consider them to be a top-four rival.

James made a strong impression in his debut season, making 26 league starts among 46 appearances in all competitions.

They yielded four goals and seven assists but he did not get a minute of action in United’s four Premier League and Champions League matches before the international break.
