Alan Hutton insists that Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham this summer.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the 28-year-old could offer more than just backup to Harry Kane in north London.
The Sun report that Tottenham are leading the race to sign Wilson and that the striker could cost as little as £10million after the Cherries’ relegation.
The Bournemouth ace netted eight times in 35 Premier League appearances last season and was also part of the England squad for their European qualifiers.
Hutton believes that Wilson would have plenty to offer Jose Mourinho and that he could flourish in a side with better players like Spurs.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’d do well there. He’s the type of player that would fit in.
“He works hard, he likes to run in behind, he can score goals – no disrespect to Bournemouth but playing with better players he’ll get more opportunities.
“He doesn’t just have to play in that number nine role – he’d be a great backup to Kane but I think he can fit in in other places which is good for Mourinho.
“It’s always the same when teams get relegated other teams try to pick off their best assets and I’m sure it’ll happen to a few of the boys at Bournemouth.
Wilson has scored a total of 41 goals in 126 Premier League games after he fired Bournemouth from the Championship to the top flight in his first season at the club.
He has also featured four times for England and scored on his debut against the USA.
In other Tottenham news, Hutton warns that Daniel Levy’s transfer plot could backfire this summer.
