Fulham are confident of success with a beat-the-deadline move to fend off Premier League rivals Southampton and Brighton for Valencia defender Martin Montoya, Football Insider sources understands.
All three Premier League clubs are looking to bring in a new right-back before the close of the transfer window closes on Thursday and they have targeted a move for former Barcelona defender Montoya.
Montoya has been pushed down the pecking order at Valencia following the arrival of Cristiano Piccini to the Mestalla this summer.
Valencia are prepared to listen to offers for the 27-year-old and Fulham are in pole position to land Montoya despite interest from Real Betis to keep him in Spain.
Montoya came through the famous Barcelona La Masia academy and spent five years in the Barca first-team before leaving for Valencia in 2016.
Fulham are set to be one of the busiest clubs on deadline day and have also lined up deals for Bristol City’s Joe Bryan and Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.
In other Southampton news, Football Insider can reveal the club are in talks to sell a 23-year-old Saint as an Aston Villa deal is all but done.
