A West Ham proposed deadline day signing of Germany defender Jonathan Tah has fallen through, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Tah had emerged as a top target for the Hammers before Monday night’s cut-off as boss David Moyes looks to bolster his side’s defensive options.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bayer Leverkusen have pulled the plug on any transfer for Tah.
The Bundesliga big hitters feel they do not have enough time in the window to bring in an adequate replacement for the 24-year-old.
It is another crushing blow for West Ham, who have seen multiple defender deals collapse this window.
They lost out to Leicester City for Wesley Fofana and had multiple bids rising to beyond £30million rejected by Burnley for James Tarkowski.
Tah came on the radar of the Londoners as he has established himself as a key player at the BayerArena as well as breaking into the Germany national team.
In five years at Leverkusen, he has made 182 appearances as well as figured nine times for Germany.
It remains to be seen if West Ham will now look elsewhere before Monday’s 11pm deadline to try and bring in a new centre-back to add to the recent £5million signing of Czech Republic full-back Vladimir Coufal.
One potential target is Swansea City’s Joe Rodon, who, as revealed by Football Insider last week, is a £15million target for West Ham.
In other West Ham news, the club have tabled a massive new bid for player at peak of his powers.
