Alan Hutton believes Aston Villa attacker Wesley silenced the doubters against Norwich City but could still do better for the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Villans right-back explained that while Wesley did well in his last outing against the Canaries and did do his job by scoring a brace, he was capable of more.
The 22-year-old forward scored twice, as well as registered an assist, during the Villans’ 5-1 victory over Norwich in his side’s last game before the international break in order to bring his Premier League goal tally to four for the season.
Hutton explained that there was talk of Keinan Daivs taking Wesley’s spot in the first-team ahead of the win over the Canaries and also pointed out that the Brazilian forward is still in the process of settling in at Villa Park.
When asked if Wesley silenced the doubters against Norwich City, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, I heard before that there were doubters and there was talk of Keinan Davis playing but look he’s a young boy himself even though he’s a man mountain of a guy.
“He’s come from a different league into the Premier League and it’s arguably the toughest division in the world, so it’s going to take him time to settle down.
“He’s scored a few goals now, I think in the game against Norwich, he did well, in spells, he got a few goals, obviously he could do better, but he’s there to score goals and that’s what he has done.
“Hopefully his confidence will be high and he can build on that and enjoy his football.”
Wesley joined Aston Villa in the summer from Belgian side Club Brugge after the Villans opted to spend £22million on his services.
In his 2018/19 season, the Brazilian attacker scored 17 goals, while registering 10 assists, for Club Brugge across the 48 appearances he made in all competitions.
