Alan Hutton claims that Alfredo Morelos has “had his head turned” after the striker discussed a possible move away from Rangers this summer.
The former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the 24-year-old has not been the same player he was since the winter break earlier this year.
He also admitted it would be “good to move to a more competitive league”.
Hutton believes that Morelos has been thinking about a move away from Ibrox since the winter and suggests that Rangers would be best off cashing in if he is not fully dedicated to the cause.
Hutton told Football Insider: “When you start reading about the terms have been spoken about and things like that, it seems to be going on and it just seems to me he’s had his head turned for a little while now.
“I think after coming back from the Christmas break he didn’t seem to be fully focused, if I’m honest, there’s maybe been agents in his head telling him about this and that, a move and he wants to try something else.
“If that’s the case and he wants to leave, you take the money and move on. I think they bought him for a million pounds so you take your profit and try to reinvest it because he’s obviously a player that has done well but wants to move on.”
Morelos scored 29 goals in 46 appearances last season but only one of those strikes came after the winter break in Scotland.
He has scored a total of 77 times in 127 games for the Glasgow giants across all competitions.
