Alan Hutton has lauded Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba as an “underrated” member of the squad this season.
The former Villa and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the 26-year-old has gone under the radar while other players have stole the limelight.
Nakamba, who was a summer signing from Club Brugge, has been a regular for Dean Smith after missing the first four games of the Premier League season.
Hutton says that the Zimbabwe international is one of the few players who can come out feeling positive after a tough campaign at Villa Park.
Hutton told Football Insider: “I think Nakamba’s done well. Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s been a difficult season, it was always going to be a difficult season.
“I think Nakamba can come out after this season thinking he’s played his part. I think he is probably underrated as well.
“There’s so much focus on the likes of Tyrone, Jack, John, even Wesley. It’s been difficult but I think in terms of underrated, Nakamba.
“He’s went about his business very well, especially when the spotlight has been on other members of the squad.”
Nakamba has featured 26 times for Villa across all competitions this season and is waiting to score his first goal in claret and blue.
He has found the back of the net just three times in 172 club appearances, all of which came while playing for Vitesse Arnhem.
