Exclusive: Hutton reacts as Rangers agree terms of fourth summer signing
Alan Hutton insists that new Rangers signing Jon McLaughlin will have to be satisfied sitting on the bench behind Allan McGregor next season.
The former Gers defender and boyhood fan at Ibrox, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims there is no question that the 38-year-old will continue to be Steven Gerrard’s first-choice goalkeeper despite the new arrival.
Football Insider revealed on Monday that the Glasgow giants had set their sights on signing the 32-year-old to replace Wes Foderingham, with the Gers confirming his capture on a free transfer on Tuesday.

He becomes the fourth Rangers signing of the summer following the captures of Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey and young striker Charlie Lindsay.
Hutton believes that McLaughin will know exactly what it means to play for Rangers after his time at Sunderland but that he will have to wait for his chance to play.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He obviously knows the Scottish league, he’s been capped for Scotland a few times so I think he’s got that experience and knowledge of the Scottish game.

“He’s been down south for a long time, Sunderland are a massive club as well so he understands what the pressure’s like.
“As it stands, Allan McGregor’s going to be the number one, no questions asked, we don’t really need to think about that. Can he go from being a number one to a number two and only playing the odd games?
“It’s a massive draw to come to Rangers, it’s another huge club – it was definitely one that’s turned his head.”
Scotland international McLaughlin played 90 times for Sunderland over a two-year spell at the Stadium of Light.
He has 29 games of Scottish Premiership experience under his belt after his time with Hearts, while he has played twice for the national side.
