Ipswich Town have set their sights on signing Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke this summer, Football Insider can reveal.
Town boss Paul Lambert is a fan of the former Bradford City star, 27, and is keen on taking him to Portman Road as he looks to build a side capable of winning promotion.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Sunderland could cash in on Wyke in the upcoming transfer window as he has just entered the final 12 months of his contract.
The Black Cats are in the market for at least one striker this summer and could sell Wyke to raise much-needed funds.
The centre-forward has had a mixed time at the Stadium of Light since his £600,000 arrival two years ago.
He scored six goals in 30 appearances in the recently-terminated season, with five of those strikes coming from 27 League One matches.
In total, Wykes’ 60 Sunderland matches have yielded 11 goals and six assists.
He has also had spells at Bradford, Carlisle United, Hartlepool United, AFC Wimbledon and Kettering Town.
Football Insider revealed that Sunderland have set their sights on a new striker with Rotherham’s Jerry Yates on their radar after he scored 14 goals last season while on loan at Swindon Town.
Phil Parkinson’s side missed out on the play-offs and possible promotion after League One clubs voted to curtail the season last month.
Final standings were decided on an unweighted points-per-game basis and the Black Cats finished eighth.
