Leeds United are in hot pursuit of Peterborough star Marcus Maddison but face competition from Nottingham Forest and Blackburn to land him this summer, Football Insider sources understand.
Skilful playmaker Maddison is currently on the transfer list, due to an agreement that he would be made available if Peterborough failed to earn promotion over the past campaign.
Leeds have been long-term admirers of Maddison and came close to signing him in January 2016 only for the move to fall through.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that new Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is happy for the club to pursue a move for Maddison as he looks to add some creativity to his side for next season and the club have made enquiries to Peterborough.
The club are currently working on a deal.
However, they face competition from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest and Blackburn who have both made their interest in Maddison known to Peterborough.
Maddison is regarded as one of the best players outside the top two leagues in England and he has the most assists out of any player in the the top four divisions over the last three seasons.
Since joining Posh in 2014, the 24-year-old has supplied a remarkable 61 assists from 177 matches as well as scoring 42 goals.
