Rangers have sensationally emerged as the overwhelming favourites to sign Premier League striker Jermain Defoe this summer, according to the latest bookmakers' odds.

Bet Victor have priced the Glasgow giants at 3/1 to land the 35-year-old, who has a year remaining on his contract at Bournemouth.

Rangers are a long way ahead of rival clubs in the betting, who include Leeds United and Nottingham Forest (both 10/1) and a string of Championship outfits at 12/1.

Defoe has had a glittering career in which he has consistently plundered goals at a number of clubs, including 163 from 492 Premier League matches.

He was linked with a move to Ibrox earlier in the summer following the appointment of Steven Gerrard.
