Leeds United, West Brom and Sheffield United are among several clubs chasing West Ham’s Marcus Browne on loan following his impressive spell at Oxford, Football Insider sources understands.
Browne, who joined Oxford on loan in the summer, has been earning rave reviews in recent weeks following a number of eye-catching displays for the League One club.
Browne, who can play anywhere along the frontline including No 10, has scored seven goals and laid on four assists in all competitions for Oxford, including netting three goals in last four games.
The 20-year-old’s impressive form has brought him to the attention of several Championship sides who are all looking to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window.
Leeds are in the market for the attacking reinforcements after agreeing to let Samu Saiz return to Spain with Getafe on loan when the transfer window reopens next month and Browne has emerged on their radar.
West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Derby, Stoke, Bristol City and Rotherham are also tracking Browne and could move for him in January.
Oxford would be reluctant to lose Browne midway through his loan spell, but West Ham could decide to recall him back and loan him out to a Championship club so that he can continue his development by playing at a higher level than League One.
Browne is highly-regarded at West Ham and the Premier League club feel he would benefit from playing in the Championship before returning to challenge for a place in the Hammers side next season.
In other Leeds United news, the club have been hit by a shattering centre-forward blow.
