Exclusive: Stunning Leeds plan to sign Ben White revealed after huge development
Leeds United have not given up hope of signing Ben White permanently this summer but face an uphill task to prise him from Brighton.
The centre-back’s outstanding loan spell has been instrumental to the club’s historic promotion-clinching campaign and seen his value rocket to beyond the £35million mark.
The consistent message from Brighton is they have big plans for White, 22, and they have no intention of letting him go in the upcoming window.
The Premier League club’s position has been strengthened by their top-flight survival, which is all but mathematically sealed.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider the club believe they have two factors in their favour in their attempts to convert arguably the most successful of the club’s loan stars into a permanent signing.
Firstly, the player has benefitted immensely from Leeds and the masterful coaching of Marcelo Bielsa that has made an England call-up a strong possibility ahead of next year’s European Championship.

Secondly, and perhaps even more significantly, White is happy at Leeds and is a popular member of the dressing room, counting Kalvin Phillips as a particularly good friend.
Should White push strongly to leave Brighton, Leeds are well placed to lure him even if the fee does appear to be on the steep side even for a club set for a £170million promotion windfall.
Significantly, the Seagulls are currently well stocked for centre-backs, with four of them proven in the Premier League.
Lewis Dunk has barely missed a matched in years and is still only 28, and has established a solid partnership with last year’s £20m signing Adam Webster.
Dan Burn is a centre-back by trade but has been converted with some success into a left-back, and Shane Duffy is also proven in the Premier League.
Leeds’ best chance of landing White is by convincing him his future is best served by returning to the club where he has just had the best year of his burgeoning career.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that a £5million bid has been accepted for £5m Elland Road target.
