EXCLUSIVE By Wayne Veysey
Tottenham are ready to offer Leeds United winger Jack Clarke an enormous pay hike to persuade him to join this summer, Football Insider can reveal.
Football Insider broke the news yesterday that Spurs have upped their interest in the 18-year-old by submitting a “significant” multi-million pound bid, although it “falls well short” of the Championship outfit’s £20million valuation.
The two clubs are a long way apart in terms of agreeing a fee, but talks are ongoing and could stretch well into this summer’s window.
A source with knowledge of the situation has told Football Insider that Tottenham are willing to persuade Clarke to quit his boyhood club by handing him a five-year contract with a massive pay rise, major bonuses and a signing-on fee.
The teenager is currently believed to be one of the lowest earners in the Leeds senior squad as he is still on the first professional deal signed on his 17th birthday in November 2017.
Clarke’s camp had hoped for a new and improved deal last season when he broke into the first team and made a big initial impact with some exciting displays that had Premier League clubs beating a path to his door.
But that has not been forthcoming and the Elland Road academy product’s current contract expires in the summer of 2021.
Leeds fended off multi-million pounds offers for Clarke in January from Premier League clubs and interest has continued in this window.
Football Insider first broke the news last month that Tottenham are preparing a move to sign Elland Road academy product after encouragement that he could be lured away this summer, while there is also interest in him from the likes of Bournemouth and Southampton.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been handed a major boost in bid to sign 21-year-old top of Bielsa’s transfer list.
