Exclusive: Tottenham prepare move to sign Leeds player after £10m bid encouragement

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Tottenham are preparing a new move for Leeds United star Jack Clarke in the wake of the Yorkshire club’s failure to win promotion to the Premier League, Football Insider understands.

Leeds are bracing themselves for offers for a number of their top players after last week’s semi-final play-off defeat to Derby and Clarke is set to be in huge demand from Premier League suitors.

A United source has told Football Insider that the club’s decision to refuse to open contract talks with Clarke during the season has given his suitors encouragement that he could be lured away from Elland Road this summer with a big-money bid in the region of £10m.

Clarke is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the country after bursting onto the scene with Leeds this season.

The 18-year-old was watched by a host of Premier League scouts on a regular basis this season with the attacker establishing himself as a key player in Marcelo Bielsa’s side before a lay-off curtailed his progress.

The source explained that Tottenham have held a long-term interest in Clarke and considered a move for the winger in the January transfer window, but Leeds managed to keep hold of the teenager as they battled for promotion.

However, the Londoners are now ready to rekindle their interest in Clarke after Leeds failed to win promotion.

In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club have secured a jawdropping £230million windfall.
