Leeds United could launch a move for Rangers’ Ryan Kent towards the end of the transfer window, Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds ace and boyhood Whites fan claimed Marcelo Bielsa will not rush into any deal as he likes to take his time.
This site revealed earlier this week that Kent has a release clause of £20million in his Rangers contract.
Leeds ad a bid of £10million rejected last month but remain interested in the 23-year-old.
Marcelo Bielsa has held an interest in the player for over a year and watched him play for Liverpool in a pre-season friendly against Bradford last summer before he joined Rangers on a permanent deal.
Asked by Football Insider whether Leeds’ continued interest in Kent surprised him, Whelan said: “Marcelo Bielsa will want good players to add to a very good quality squad already.
“But he’ll only go for the right players. We know he’s very picky about who he wants in the squad and the characters he needs to bring into the team to add to the character’s he’s already got.
“He takes his time, he doesn’t rush into things. He won’t just go for any name willy-nilly.
“He’ll want the right characteristics in a player.
“Kent, right now, is hitting those characteristics that he wants and he’d be a great addition.
“I’d be excited if he came to Leeds United.”
Kent has enjoyed a fine start to the season for Rangers scoring five goals and providing a further five assists in nine games.
He joined the Light Blues initially on loan from Liverpool in the summer of 2018, he has played 85 games for Rangers across all competitions.
