Noel Whelan has tipped Leeds United to return with a fresh bid for Rangers winger Ryan Kent after their first offer was rejected.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Whites striker believes Marcelo Bielsa is a big fan of the dazzling attacker after he scouted him last summer.

Gerrard confirmed to the media on Friday that an opening offer from Leeds had been “strongly rejected” and the Gers boss issued a “hands off” warning to the Whites.

The Whites have been linked with the former Liverpool starlet in previous years prior to his move to Ibrox.

Whelan believes that Leeds are very keen on securing the winger’s services and believes there will be another bid launched in due course.

Asked if he thought Leeds would return with a second offer, Whelan told Football Insider: “I would say so, it’s a bit like buying a house, you put down a little tester offer to begin with and then you go and offer a bit more, a bit like they’ve been doing with Ben White.

“I wouldn’t expect it to be dead in the water just because they said no on that occasion. I do expect them to go back, get their heads together and put another plan of attack into place and another offer for Ryan Kent.

“Marcelo Bielsa has a certain type of player he likes to add to his squad and he was down at Bradford when Bradford took on Liverpool (in 2019) but nothing came of that afterwards and I think at the time you had Rangers who pursued him a lot quicker.”

Kent joined Rangers from Liverpool in a £7million deal back in 2019 after he impressed during an initial loan spell at Ibrox.

He has scored 16 goals and chipped in with 13 assists in his 80 appearances for the Glasgow giants and he has already netted twice in four games this season.

In other Leeds United news, Whelan has revealed the club are trying to sign a German international.
