Victor Orta has urged Daniel James to hold fire on agreeing a move to Manchester United - and wait to see if Leeds United can get promoted.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have not given up hope of winning the race for the signature of the in-demand Swansea City forward.

With Man United in pole position to land James, Orta has contacted the player's camp to smooth talk him into waiting until Leeds' play-off challenge is complete as the club head into Wednesday's semi-final second leg against Derby at Elland Road with a 1-0 advantage.

James has emerged as one of the most exciting players in the Championship on the back of the huge impact he's made at the Swans since they pulled the plug on his January move to Elland Road.

Leeds had agreed a loan-to-buy deal worth £10million for the 21-year-old, who passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

James had bounced back from his transfer heartache to catch the eye of multiple Premier League clubs with five goals and 10 assists from 38 Swansea appearances this season.
