Manchester United are in advanced talks with Swansea over a £15million deal for winger Daniel James, Football Insider understands.

A host of Premier League clubs have lined up moves for in-demand attacker James this summer, but United are determined to win the race for the Welshman's signature after Football Insider revealed in midweek they had set their sights on him.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made James a top target during this summer's transfer window as he looks to add pace and width to his side for next season.

The likes of Everton, Newcastle, Bournemouth and Southampton have been linked with James, but a well-placed United source has told Football Insider that James favours a move to Old Trafford over all other interested parties and a deal is edging closer.

James could be the first of several young players through the doors at Old Trafford in a blizzard of new arrivals this summer as Solskjaer wants to sign exciting talents that the club can develop like they did with Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

Swansea are resigned to losing James as the 21-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Liberty Stadium and they are prepared to cash-in on him now rather than risk allowing him to run down his contract.

James has been one of the stars of the Championship this season with his electrifying pace making him a nightmare for defenders to mark and he broke into the Wales squad this year, scoring the winning goal in March's Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia.

The forward came within a whisker of joining Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal worth £10million in January after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms before Swansea pulled the plug.
