Manchester United are plotting a summer swoop for highly-rated Fenerbahce midfielder Eljif Elmas, Football Insider understands.

United have been tracking Elmas, 19, for some time after sending scouts to watch the Macedonian international in Champions League qualifying for Fenerbahce at the start of the season.

A source at the Premier League giants has told Football Insider that the club are ready to steal a march on their rivals by firming up their interest and making a bid for the teenager.

Fenerbahce are bracing themselves for offers for central midfielder Elmas this summer after a disappointing campaign this season.

Elmas, who has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce this season, is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe after impressing for club and country over the last 12 months and is also attracting interest from the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

United are planning a major overhaul of their under-performing squad this summer with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer aiming to bring in young talent that the club can develop and Elmas fits the bill.

United are also in the market for midfield reinforcements this summer with Ander Herrera confirming his departure from the club when his contract expires and doubts over the long-term futures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
