Manchester United are terminating midfielder James Garner's loan at Watford, Football Insider can reveal.

The 19-year-old has not started a game for the Hornets since Xisco Munez took over as manager on December 21.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider the Premier League giants are planning for him to move to another Championship club ahead of deadline day.

Garner has featured in 22 games across all competitions for Watford but has found opportunities limited by Xisco's switch to a 4-4-2.

Former United midfielder Tom Cleverly is a regular in the Hornets midfield and has been partnered by Will Hughes or Nathaniel Chalobah.

Wirral-born Garner is highly-rated at Old Trafford and captained the club's Under-23 side before moving to Vicarage Road.

He has played 26 times for Manchester United Under-23s and made his first-team debut in February 2019 as a 90th-minute substitute in the Premier League.

The England Under-20 international has featured in seven games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's senior side across all competitions with the majority coming in last season's Europa League.

He scored nine goals in his time with the Under-23s but has not found the net for Watford.

The Hornets are currently third in the Championship and are eyeing an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation last season.

They are level on points with Swansea City who occupy the final automatic promotion place but have an inferior goal difference and have played a game more.

In other news, Football Insider can reveal Manchester United have blocked an in-demand star leaving this month.
