Exclusive: 'Massive' Celtic transfer claim as Bent compares star to Hoops great
Darren Bent claims that Celtic will have “no problem” in replacing star striker Odsonne Edouard if he leaves Parkhead this summer.
The former Tottenham and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits losing the 22-year-old would be “massive” for the Hoops.
It is understood that Celtic value Edouard between £30-40million after his goalscoring exploits in Glasgow, having signed for a club-record fee said to be around £9million back in 2018.
Bent admits that losing the Frenchman would be a bitter pill to swallow for Neil Lennon and his men but that he has no doubts they will find a replacement.
He points to the Bhoys’ continued success after Henrik Larsson left Parkhead in 2004 as an example, the club going on to win three of the next four league titles.
“It would be massive if he was suddenly to leave but Celtic are a big club, massive football club, and have never had a problem replacing stars,” Bent told Football Insider.

“When Henrik Larsson left I’m sure they probably thought: ‘That’s it, no more for Celtic,’ and look what they’ve done. Ever since he left that many years ago, they’ve still consistently won trophy after trophy after trophy.
“I don’t think they’ll have a problem in replacing him again.”
Edouard has been a standout performer for Lennon this season, scoring 27 goals and setting up 19 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
Initially signed on loan from PSG for the 2017/18 campaign, he has a total of 60 strikes in 126 games for the Bhoys.
