Jackie McNamara claims that Celtic need to recruit another right-back before the end of the window as he casts doubt on new signing Hatem Abd Elhamed.
The former Hoops and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that he is not certain about whether the Israeli international is best suited to playing on the right-hand side of the defence, having operated as a centre-back for the majority of his career.
Neil Lennon has been forced into finding a new first-choice full-back after Mikael Lustig left Parkhead at the expiry of his contract this summer, Jeremy Toljan also leaving after his loan spell came to an end.
McNamara says that one new recruit will not be enough, Kristoffer Ajer having filled in as a makeshift option during the Champions League qualifiers, and doubts whether Elhamed is naturally suited to the position too.
“There’s obviously the right-back position that needs strengthening,” McNamara told Football Insider.
“They’ve signed the lad in for there in Elhamed but I don’t know if that’s his natural position, right-back or centre-half. You could do with another one there to make it two right-backs.”
Elhamed, 28, has usually played in the heart of the defence for both club and country, having picked up one international cap for Israel, and he has limited minutes playing on the right.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that the club are holding fresh talks over the exit of a first-team player.
