Crystal Palace are set to table a formal bid for Newcastle and Southampton target Mohamed Elyounoussi, Football Insider sources understand.
Newcastle and Southampton have been tracking Basel winger Elyounoussi for several months and have made him one of their top targets now ahead of the January transfer window.
A well place source has told Football Insider that Palace are now ready to steal a march on their Premier League rivals by tabling a bid for the Norway international.
The 23-year-old has scored six goals and laid on 11 assists in 25 games for Basel so far this season to earn himself a reputation as one of the best attacking players in Europe.
Elyounoussi was instrumental in helping Basel qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League by finishing runners-up to Manchester United in Group A and they face Manchester City in the last 16.
Palace boss Roy Hodgson is keen to add to strengthen his attack when the transfer window reopens next month and he sees Elyounoussi as someone who can add goals and creativity to his side.
Elyounoussi’s agent, Ferhat Cifici, confirmed there was a great deal of interest in the player, but refused to reveal the identity of the clubs that were chasing him.
Basel are keen to keep hold of Elyounoussi as they want him available for their Champions League tie against Manchester City, but they are expecting offers for the attacker next month.
