Exclusive: Paul Robinson claims 'A lot of clubs' want to sign West Ham 'Colossus'
Paul Robinson has claimed “a lot of clubs” are keen on signing Issa Diop as he continues to impress into his second season at West Ham.
The former Spurs and Leeds United shot-stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, identified the 23-year-old as the Hammers’ best player so far this season.
According to a report from Don Balon, Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid are ready to test the club’s resolve with a £37.5million bid this summer.
The former France under-21 international joined from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for what was then a club-record £22million fee.
When asked if the defender’s head would be turned by the speculation, Robinson told Football Insider: “There is a lot of clubs watching him.
“I think he is a good player and has done well at West Ham. I think he has been the best player for them this year. He is big, a colossus in the heart of the defence. A good player and I remember Manchester United were interested in him during the summer.

“He is still very young so he has time to develop as well but playing in a team like West Ham he has stood out and that shows the quality of a player. He has a lot to improve on and he can be prone to a mistake.”
Diop has become one of the first names on the teamsheet at the London Stadium, making 26 appearances this campaign.
The Hammers are currently 16th in the Premier League, hovering just two points above the drop with all fixtures suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
