Paul Robinson has tipped Serge Aurier to be sold by Tottenham this summer in order to fund further transfer activity.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed that “the writing is on the wall” for the 27-year-old after the club entered talks with AC Milan over a deal.
Sky Sports claim that the Serie A giants have held talks with Spurs over potentially signing the right-back but the two clubs are said to be apart in their valuation of the player.
Aurier was integral to Jose Mourinho’s side last season and made 42 appearances across all competitions but the arrival of Matt Doherty has cast doubt over his future.
Doherty was signed for £16million from Wolves last month and it is expected that he will be the Lilywhites first-choice right-back in the 2020/21 campaign.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected Aurier to still be at Spurs come 6 October, Robinson said:
“The fact that Spurs are listening to offers for Serge Aurier tells me that the writing is on the wall for him.
“We know the financial situation that Spurs are in and I think Jose sees him as a potential avenue of income. He could use the money to strengthen in that position or elsewhere.
“They might be able to get a decent fee for a player that they wanted to ship on anyway this summer.”
The Ivory Coast international has two years remaining on his contract in North London having penned a five-year deal upon his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
Jose Mourinho’s side welcome Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday as their Premier League season begins.
