Jose Mourinho has put the block on Ryan Sessegnon leaving Tottenham this window as he has earmarked a major role for him this season.
The 20-year-old has been the subject of strong interest from Premier League and European clubs this summer interested in signing him on a year-long loan.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Mourinho has informed Sessegnon that he will be staying in north London as he has big plans for him in this campaign.
The Portugese wants the versatile £25million signing from Fulham to vie with Ben Davies for the left-back position as well as offer a potential attacking option higher up the pitch.
Sessegnon demonstrated that side of his game by coming off the bench to score for England Under-21s in the 6-0 thrashing of Kosovo on Friday night.
He has struggled to make an impact at Spurs following his protracted transfer from Fulham last August, with injuries and mixed form disrupting his debut campaign.
The source explained that Mourinho and his backroom staff are in no doubt about the potential and talent of Sessegnon.
They are convinced he will eventually come good and will benefit from a full pre-season under his belt.
Longer term, Mourinho regards Sessegnon as a left-back capable of establishing himself as a first choice for club and country, and able to shine in the Champions League.
This season the youngster who was a regular for Fulham at the age of 16 is likely to be used in multiple positions depending on the match requirements.
Sessegnon has made just four Premier League starts among 12 appearances in all competitions since joining Tottenham.
