Premier League trio Southampton, Leicester City and Bournemouth are ready to blow Leeds United out of the water in the race to sign Daniel James this summer, Football Insider understands.

The top-flight big guns have all joined the race to land the attacker, 21, who has emerged as one of the most exciting players outside of the top division.

James came within a whisker of signing for United in January on a loan-to-buy deal worth £10million in total but his club Swansea City pulled the plug at the eleventh hour on deadline day.

Leeds have kept the door open for a fresh move for the winger this summer, but his superb form for Swansea has brought Premier League scouts flocking to south Wales.

A source close to the player has told Football Insider that Southampton, Leicester and Bournemouth are all ready to follow up their interest in James with major bids.

Leeds face being blown out of the water, given the trio are established in the top flight and have the resources they would not be able to match even if they are promoted.

James is out of contract at Swansea in the summer of 2020 and talks over a new deal have not got off the ground.
