EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke

Leeds United are set to sign Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry after agreeing personal terms with him, Football Insider understands.

The Championship promotion hopefuls have been working on a deal to land the 16-year-old from the Scottish outfit since January and recently agreed a fee worth £400,000 including add-ons.

A club source has told Football Insider that Leeds have now tied up the terms of a contract which will allow the rising star to imminently complete a move to Elland Road.

He is set to sign to put pen to paper on an initial scholarship deal which will then become a three-year professional deal when he turns 17 in September.

The three-and-a-half year contract will include a pay rise for McKinstry when he graduates to the pro ranks in five months’ time.

As reported by Football Insider, Leeds have fended off interest from Premier League outfit Southampton to agree terms with McKinstry, who is a Scotland Under-17 international.

McKinstry is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Scotland and has already been named on the substitute’s bench for the Motherwell first team this season.

Leeds’ plan is for the teenager to link up with their Under-23s squad before he is incorporated into Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team set-up.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED the club have agreed a six-figure fee as they fend off Southampton to close in on new signing.
