Exclusive: Pundit casts doubt over mega-money Leeds summer signing already agreed
Alex Bruce has cast doubt over Jean-Kevin Augustin’s prospective transfer deal at Leeds United after he reportedly suffered another injury blow in training.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds defender believes the 22-year-old’s setback could impact the Whites’ agreement to sign the striker this summer.
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has reported that Augustin, who is on loan from RB Leipzig, has been sidelined with a hamstring strain picked up in training ahead of the prospective return of the Championship.

As revealed by Football Insider back in March, Leeds have an obligation to buy the Frenchman for £18million if they are promoted this summer, although the proposed deal requires Augustin to sign off on it himself.
Bruce believes that Augustin will struggle to feature between now and the end of the season and suggests that the deal between Leeds and RB Leipzig could be in doubt.
Bruce told Football Insider: “Only they know what kind and how serious the injury is, the medical staff at Leeds will be assessing it but for the lad’s sake you hope he can recover and get a few games in between now and the end of the season.

“If he can’t and the injury keeps persisting then it’s (the proposed deal) going to be a difficult one for both parties. It’s going to be really tough because, obviously, it’s such a weird circumstance to be in.
“You have two or three weeks training and then you’re straight back into games. Those two or three weeks training with the squad and getting a couple practice matches in are going to be massive.
“If you’ve missed out on that it’s going to be difficult to force their way into the team. You’re playing catch up to everybody.”
Augustin has played just three times, totalling 48 minutes, for Leeds since his loan move back in January.
His one and only goal this season came back in December when he netted for his old loan side AS Monaco.
