The Tottenham squad will be furious with teammate Tanguy Ndombele after reports of a rift with Jose Mourinho emerged, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the Frenchman’s teammates will not have taken kindly to a behind-closed-doors issue making its way into the public domain.

As revealed by Football Insider earlier this week, the board are angry with the 23-year-old’s camp for what they view as an orchestrated effort to force his way out of north London.

French TV channel TF1 have claimed that the midfielder has told Mourinho that he does not want to work with him in a meeting between the pair, with further reports stating the confrontation kicked off on the training ground.

Whelan believes there is an issue between player and manager but insists that it should have remained an internal matter and that his teammates will be disappointed with his behaviour.

Whelan told Football Insider: “Him trying to do the sneaky bit and saying there is a rift – I think there is a rift there but that should be kept behind closed doors and dealt with in the summer in the proper way.

“He’s let himself down a massive amount there and I’m sure the players and everyone associated with the club will not enjoy that kind of move from the player.”

Ndombele has been singled out for criticism by Mourinho throughout the season, with the Portuguese manager questioning the midfielder’s fitness.

He has played a total of 27 times across all competitions after becoming the club’s record signing last summer.

In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been given big hope of signing 26-year-old desperate to join them.
