Bright Osayi-Samuel has been left out of the Queens Park Rangers squad for their Championship clash against Barnsley tonight after rejecting a new contract, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The wide man has entered the final eight months of his contract at the London club and can sign a pre-contract deal from 1 January with a foreign club.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that QPR have made a new attempt to keep hold of Osayi-Samuel by offering him a new and improved long-term deal.
But the 22-year-old has plunged his career at the club into fresh doubt by knocking it back.
Manager Mark Warburton has responded by dropping the first-team mainstay from the matchday squad for the trip to Oakwell tonight.
Osayi-Samuel’s omission is a shock as he has started all seven of the Championship matches played by QPR this season as well as their EFL Cup defeat to Plymouth.
The winger has been so integral to Warburton’s team he has in fact completed the full 90 minutes in seven of those eight encounters.
As revealed by Football Insider, there has been strong interest in Osayi-Samuel from Premier League clubs including Leicester City and Brighton, and the two Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic.
QPR knocked back enquiries for Osayi-Samuel in the January window and, in February, triggered an option to extend his contract by 12 months until the summer of 2021.
He held extensive talks with multiple clubs this summer but remained at Loftus Road after a move to Brugge collapse.
Osayi-Samuel, who can play anywhere behind the striker including on both flanks, scored six goals and supplied nine assists from 40 matches in all competitions last season.
He has scored once this season as well as supplied one assist for QPR, who are placed 16th in the table.
