Rangers would be absolute spot-on to loan out Glenn Middleton next season to an English lower-league side, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Gers defender and lifelong fan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the immensely promising attacker needs to build up his experience before trying to stake a claim in Steven Gerrard’s side.
As revealed by Football Insider on Monday, the Gers are planning on sending the 20-year-old on loan to an English Football League side next season in order to boost his development.
It is understood the Ibrox coaching staff have high hopes for Middleton but believe a full season of playing first-team football elsewhere is in his best interests.
The winger joined Hibernian on a temporary deal last summer but after struggling for game time at the Premiership side moved to Bradford for the second half of the season.
Hutton believes the promising forward needs to get experience under his belt and that a full-season loan is the right decision moving forward.
“I think it’s fair to say he burst onto the scene and everyone had high hopes for him but it kind of tailed off a little bit,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“He’s very young, you can’t expect too much, too soon in my opinion – you need to bed them in as you go along.
“I think for the moment he’s still got great potential and I think it’s a good idea to let him go out on loan and experience the world, get games and improve as a player.
“He’s got some great talents, he’s really quick, for defender he’s a nightmare so let him just improve and grow naturally rather than putting him in a Rangers team where you must perform now.
“It’s always going to be tough with the fans so I think it’s a great idea what they’re thinking – just let him go out on loan and see how he develops.”
Middleton started twice in his three appearances for Bradford, with the League Two season cut short last week.
He has a total of 28 appearances, five goals and five assists under his belt for Rangers’ senior side, although his last runout for the Gers came in April 2019.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made a decision on landing new full-back after Calvin Bassey agreement.
